THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE

Living on Earth is expensive,
but it does include a free trip
around the sun every year.

How long a minute is
depends on what side of the
bathroom door you're on.

Birthdays are good for you;
the more you have,
the longer you live.

Happiness comes through doors you
didn't even know you left open.

Ever notice that the people who are late
are often much jollier
than the people who have to wait for them?

Most of us go to our grave
with our music still inside of us.

If Wal-Mart is lowering prices every day,
how come nothing is free yet?

You may be only one person in the world,
but you may also be the world to one person.

Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.

Don't cry because it's over;
smile because it happened.

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
and all are different colors....but
they all exist very nicely in the same box.

A truly happy person is one who
can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have an awesome day, and
know that someone
who thinks you're great
has thought about you today!..

"And that person was me.".....

MARGARINE VS BUTTER

Pass The Butter ... please.
This is interesting . . . . .

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys. When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back. It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter. How do you like it? They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW.. the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end...gets very interesting!

Both have the same amount of calories.

Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams.

Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.

Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!

Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.

Butter & has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine..

Very high in trans fatty acids.

Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)

Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold.

Lowers quality of breast milk.

Decreases immune response.

Decreases insulin response.

And here's the most disturbing fact.... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING!

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC..

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

You can try this your self:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

* no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)

* it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it. Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow. Why? Because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends.....(If you want to "butter them up")!

Chinese Proverb:
"When someone shares something of value with you and you benefit from it, you have a moral obligation to share it with others.
So..., DO IT !

KUNG PINOY SI NOAH...

Para sa lahat ng PINOYS!

Kung Pinoy si Noah....

...Ganito ang mangyayari sa barko. Read along...

THE FILIPINOS BY ART BELL

This is a very disturbing open E-mail letter to all Filipinos around the world; specially here in North America!, from a man who has the power to reach millions of people. (he's a radio talk host)

Please read on...

This is an open letter email by Art Bell, a radio talk show host in Nevada (more info in the email itself). Here is yet another person who has taken advantage of his power and privilege to use hateful words and racial stereotypes that breed further ignorance and intolerance in our society.

Art Bell is a talk radio host who has two shows that he broadcasts from his home in Nevada, that is rebroadcast by 400 stations across the country.

He's written 2 books. He lived in Okinawa, Japan for some years and had a radio program on the English station here. And, though it's hard to believe after reading the following letter from him, he actually has been to the Philippines (he's traveled fairly extensively around the world).

Check out his website listed at the end to get a glimpse at this fool who's spreading this hateful ignorance. And check his wife as well. This letter is so degrading, I think it's really important that everybody read this and not attack him, but respond to him in a civilized manner because otherwise his thoughts will be reaffirmed. Understand that not everyone has a viewpoint like we do, and that this is an opinion of someone who hopefully can be changed only by civil actions.
...............................................

Filipinos.....*make me puke* (Art Bell)

As we've all come to notice, in the past few decades, Filipinos have begun to infest the United States like some sort of disease. Their extensive involvement in the U.S. Armed Forces is proof of the trashy kind of qualities all Filipinos tend to exhibit on a regular basis. You can see this clearly by studying the attitudes and cultural Icons of most Filipino Americans.

Origins of Pinoys/Pinays:

Are they really asian? Well we've come to accept the fact the Filipinos come from a part of the world known as South East Asia. But the term "Asia" is used in the wrong way. You may notice that contemporary Filipino Americans try very hard to associate themselves with groups that we know as Asian. I cannot count the number of times I have seen a 'Third World' Filipino try to connect themselves to the Chinese or Japanese people. There is no connection and here's why.

The Philippines is a Third World country. Nothing respectable has EVER been created by Filipino people during our entire human history. Young Filipino men in America have become obsessed with "import racing". They have an enormously perverted affection for Japanese cars. It's a common phenomenon. In their minds, these Filipinos somehow believe that they are Asian and that it somehow connects them to Japanese people and japanese cars. They often take credit for the ingenuity of Japanese people and say how it's an "Asian thing". This term... "Asian thing" derived directly from African American slang "black thang". "It's a black thang." "It's an asian thang."

You can see the connection. It's even funnier that, in Japan, Filipinos are heavily discriminated against. The only Filipinos that can live successfully in Japan are the Filipino prostitutes. But that's the case for most Filipino people no matter where they live in the world. Now we've come down to this fact... and it is a fact.

Nothing in Filipino Culture can be seen as Asian. They have no architectural, artistic, or cultural influence which is in ANY way, Asian. Thinking of the great countries in Asia such as Japan, Korea, and China there is no way you can possibly connect the Philippine Islands. This assault by Filipino Americans to connect themselves with the great peoples of North East Asia is foul and disgusting. Try visiting a young Filipino's web site too.

You'll see something called the "Asian IRC Ring". It has to do with the chatrooms. The most horrible thing about this is that these TRASHY people are trying to associate themselves with Asia again!! People in Asia don't act like this at all. What we are seeing here is the natural Filipino in its element with full access to technology and this is how they act! You will consistently see this behavior over and over again.

Another interesting thing is that these "third world" people also frequent RC chatrooms such as #Chinese #Japan and #Asian. They must believe that they are somehow related racially or culturally to North Asians. But it's completely WRONG! There might have been some distant contact with China and even less with Japan during World War II, but these people are actually more closely related to African Americans and Mexican Americans.

Do the parents of these young Filipinos know what's going on? Would they accept this? I believe that they would and do. This is the natural "Trash" element in Filipinos manifesting itself. Nothing good has ever come from Philippines and I don't believe anything good ever will.

Recognizing your Roots (A Message to Filipinos). To all Filipino people:

Please recognize your ROOTS! You come from the Third World! Your country is a disgusting and filthy place. Most people there live in poverty! Your culture has MUCH MORE SPANISH influence than Chinese, and absolutely no JAPANESE influence whatsoever. People in Japan and China, do not act like you. They do not constantly talk about sex and they have a MUCH HIGHER level of RESPECT for each other. There is NO WAY that you can connect yourself to Asia other than location.

Your culture and technological advancement does not even come CLOSE to what Chinese, people have done in the past and what Japanese and Korean people are doing now! Everything you do is distinctly Filipino. You cannot take credit for Japanese cars, video games, or Hentai! It's not an "Asian thing" it's an "American thing". You have no concept of culture... no concept of Asian ideas or Asian philosophy! Can you demonstrate how you use Confucianism or Taoism in your everyday life?? You can't. And you will NEVER be able to.

I understand that you are trying to create an identity for yourselves as young people... but it is NOT related to Asia. Your Identity is Filipino.

That's all you are. Just Filipino. Think about what that means....

FREEDOMS ETERNAL FLAME

Freedom is the ability to stand up for what you believe in no matter
What anyone else says or does to dissuade you.

Freedom is the right to live with dignity without being
Forced to live in fear of discourse.

Freedom almost never comes without a high price
That sometimes gets forgotten over time.

We cannot begin to fathom what some people have gone through to give
Or preserve the freedom in which we take for granted.

If we lose sight of our freedoms we lose sight of why we paid the price we did
And in doing so we turn our backs on the people who paid the
Ultimate price for our freedom.

If we turn our backs on our freedoms and those things that we hold
Sacred we lose who we are and who we hope to become.

Those of us who through a selfless act gave us gave us the freedoms we share,
Should be revered, remembered and shown that for the price they paid is the fuel
That fuels an eternal flame that we call freedom that can never be
Extinguished ever.

LAW AND ORDER IN THE STRONG REPUBLIC

Last June 21, 2007 at around 10:30 PM, I rode an orange and white air-conditioned bus (I think it was a JMK bus.) at EDSA cor. Aurora Blvd. It was on its way to Muntinlupa via Skyway.

I was asleep during the entire ride until two men announced a hold-up when we reached Guadalupe. It was between 11:00-11:30 PM. Holding a revolver each, the two suspects told me and the other six passengers (two men and four women) to surrender our wallets and cell phones. When I refused to give them my gray bag, the two men pointed their guns at me and snatched my bag. They ordered the driver to pass through the Ayala underpass to avoid the traffic lights.

This is how the suspects looked like:

Suspect A Mid-40's to mid-50's 5'6" to 5'8" tall Heavy build Has dark complexion Has short, thick black and gray hair (bunot-style) Has thick black and gray moustache Was wearing clear eyeglasses Was wearing a faded pink and gray (in horizontal stripes) short-sleeved shirt with collar Was wearing blue jeans

Suspect B Mid-30's to early 40's 5'4" to 5'6" tall Medium build Has dark complexion Has prominent cheekbones with sunken cheeks Has short, thin black hair (almost crew cut) Was wearing a yellow T-shirt with black stripes on the shoulders Was wearing maong shorts

The Weapons Both men used similar guns. The gun was silver with brown handle and old-type barrel (similar to toy revolvers).

(According to the conductor, the two men got on the bus at Shaw Blvd.)

When we reached the Magallanes Interchange, the two men jumped off the bus. Everyone was in a state of shock. The driver seemed to be in autopilot mode as he guided the bus into the SLE. I told him to take the Bicutan Exit and look for the nearest police station to report the incident. When we failed to find one, we returned to the SLE and took the Sucat Exit instead. Along Sucat Road, we finally saw a group of police officers (mobile patrol).

When we reported the incident to them, they told us that it was outside of their jurisdiction and that we have to report the incident to the Ayala Ave. police station incident. I asked if they have two-way radios so that they can contact the police officers in Makati and apprehend the suspects. Apparently, they had none. The other passengers were already feeling tired and helpless. They did not want to return to Makati so soon after what happened. Therefore, the driver and conductor dropped us at Alabang. I even had to ask the conductor for 10 pesos so that I could at least pay for the jeepney fare to Las Pinas.

Knowing that I needed a police report to have all my ID's replaced, I went to the Ayala Ave. police station (the one in the car park beside SM) last June 23 to report the incident. Police Officer Valila refused to make the report. Since the passengers jumped off at Magallanes, it was out of their jurisdiction. He told me to report the incident to Precinct 3 (the one along Evangelista St.) instead.

I went to Precinct 3 and reported the incident to Police Officer Ramile. He also refused to make the report. Since the suspects announced the hold-up at Guadalupe, I should report the incident to the Guadalupe police station instead. My patience was wearing thin at that point, and I asked him to check with the Guadalupe police station first so that I would not waste my time and money going there. Unfortunately (or fortunately), the phone at the Guadalupe police station was not working. Ramile then called Valila to question the latter's decision of sending me over to Precinct 3. After a heated debate, Ramile grudgingly wrote the report on his logbook. He only asked for a summary of the incident and a list of the items I lost. He did not even ask me to describe the suspects. Afterwards, he told me to return on June 25 during office hours to get the typewritten report.

I returned to Precinct 3 at 8:30 this morning to get the typewritten report. Unfortunately, Ramile was not the desk officer on duty. Police Officer Zaratan, the desk officer on duty, told me that I had to wait for Ramile to get the report. When he told me that Ramile was on night shift, I nearly lost my temper. I explained to him that I needed the report today; otherwise, I will not be able to return to the police station during office hours on weekdays. Still, he refused to do the report. He said that his shift ended at 8:00 AM, and I had to wait for the next desk officer, Police Officer Avila, who called to say that he was coming in late. In addition, he claimed that he did not have any papers with PNP letterhead and carbon papers, which he needed to do the report.

At 10:00 AM, Police Officer Avila finally arrived. While he typed out the report, he told me to go to the Makati City Hall to pay for the police blotter. When I got to the Makati City Hall, the cashier at the Office of the Treasurer told me that payments for police blotters are only accepted at the Makati Central Police Station. I asked her why the police officers at Precinct 3 do not know this, and she replied, "Ay, di pa nga talaga nila alam 'yun!" So, I headed off to the Makati Central Police Station, paid P50 for the police blotter and returned to Precinct 3. At 12:00 NN, I finally got the typewritten police report, which was typed on an ordinary bond paper (without a PNP letterhead) and full of spelling and grammatical errors.

My exasperating experience in obtaining the police report is more traumatic, more shocking, than the hold-up incident itself. First, it shocks me to learn that the PNP does not have a communications network to apprehend suspects on the run. If the mobile patrol officers in Sucat were able to contact their counterparts in Makati, I am sure the suspects would have been easily apprehended. Second, it shocks me to learn that the PNP does not have an IT network. An operational IT network will answer issues regarding jurisdiction over crimes done in transit. Anyone can go to any police station (In other words, all police stations should be computerized.) to report a crime, and the desk officer can simply send the report via email to the appropriate police station. The computerization of all police stations would also mean that payments for police blotters could also be accepted at these police stations. There will be no need to centralize payments in a particular police station. Third, it shocks me to learn that some police officers are not updated about changes in procedures. There should be regular update meetings between the local government and local police stations so that correct information would be disseminated to the police officers.

I do not understand why reporting a crime to the PNP has to be so arduous and exasperating. A crime is traumatic enough. There is no need to torture further the crime victims by forcing them to deal with inept, inefficient police officers. I hope that this message will eventually reach the PNP, and I hope that they will address all the issues I raised.

WHAT A HARD LIFE!

Got this e-mail from Dave Brinsfield

In your article, "Hopeful optimists no more!" you asked, "What is happening to our nation?

When I returned to the Philippines after a 40-year absence, I asked myself the same thing. When I was here in the 1960s, I found hope and excitement for the future. My friends at the time, all believed the future would be bright. English was spoken by almost everyone of my friends and communication was easy. Many of my friends were able to go to the US and become successful while others stayed here and became successful. It was a wonderful time to be in the Philippines.

When I stepped off the plane in 2001, I did not find hope. I found acceptance of despair. It seemed to me there was little hope for the future. College educated young people were working as bus boys, waiters, drivers, house help, etc. Many were working on contracts for six months, then would be dismissed.

Today, I see no changes for the better, only resignation that the people will take any job just to put food on the table. It was sad when I arrived and it is sad today. The colleges continue to produce what might be called graduates however, they seem to lack survival skills in writing, speaking and the spirit and drive to improve themselves. Is it because after the age of 25, there is no future for most of them? What happens to those seeking work after 25? What happens to the educations and the work experiences?

Why would a contract employee want to excel? After maybe six months, they will lose their minimum pay job regardless of their performance. I remember a wonderful waitress in Manila. I commented favorably on her ability to wait on tables. She told me she was a college graduate and would be released from her job the following week. Next week, she was gone.

When I see the number of unemployed people around me, I wonder where the unemployment figures reported in the papers come from. They seem to say unemployment is about 10 percent, or so, when I can count a lot more in the neighborhoods I visit. When it is said a certain number of people have found jobs in the past month or so, I wonder who are they counting. If it is contract workers, it must be they count those getting jobs but not those losing the same jobs.

Boo, keep up the good columns. I used to think it was unfortunate your column appears in the back of the paper but those of us who follow you already know where you are and we can find you wherever your columns appear. Thanks.

FRIENDS ARE...

Friends are the people who you meet in life
That end up staying with you

Friends are the people who you can hang out with
Anywhere and anywhere regardless of the time

Friends are the ones who will not berate you or
Belittle you no matter what you do

Friends are the people will lend a hand when two hands
Are not enough when everyone else looks the other way

Friends are the one who will support you when you need it
Even when no one else will or can

Friends are the ones who know how to embarrass you just at the
Right moment with a story that you would like to forget

Friends are willing to accept you regardless of any
Faults you may have

Friends are able to deal with you when you are at your
Worst and then be able to laugh at it afterwards

Friends in the end are like family members that have never
Grown apart from each other over time
